In 2017, we installed 190 poles (replacing 207), installed 41 kilometres of overhead wire, installed 35 pole-top transformers, installed 2 kilometres of underground cable, maintained 17 distribution substations, installed 7 pad-mount transformers, replaced/rebuild 1 transformer vaults, visually inspected 1777 electric poles, discovered 91 defects to address via infrared scanning, installed 52 line switches, trimmed trees to ensure safety and reliability.

Activities to operate, maintain and upgrade electricity distribution equipment help ensure power reliability for customers. Preventative maintenance helps identify and address problems before they occur.

Responsible Infrastructure Management

We provide asset management, billing and operational services to Kingston Hydro, which in turn is the Ontario Energy Board licensed distributor of electricity for 28,000 customers in central Kingston. Our employees service 5,150 poles, 1,785 transformers, 17 distribution substations, 1,413 underground structures, 104 kilometres of 5 kV underground cables, 179 kilometres of 5 kV overhead conductors, 7 km of 44 kV underground conductors, and 47 kilometres of 44 kV overhead conductors.

Utilities Kingston provides asset management, billing and operational services to Kingston Hydro, which in turn is the Ontario Energy Board licensed distributor of electricity for 28,000 customers in central Kingston.

Assets include 5,150 poles, 1,785 transformers, 17 distribution substations, 1,413 underground structures, 104 kilometres of 5 kV underground cables, 179 kilometres of 5 kV overhead conductors, 7 km of 44 kV underground conductors,  and 47 kilometres of 44 kV overhead conductors.
